THE names of the four residents who are to receive this year's Civic Awards were announced by the town's Mayor on Monday evening (June 5th). Cllr Eric Gill said there had been a good number of well-deserving people put forward for the awards, which will be presented later this year.

VANDALS have gone on the rampage in a Burnham-On-Sea public garden, ripping up paving stones and damaging seats - angering the town's Mayor. Marine Cove has been partially closed to the public after vandals conducted the night-time attack over the weekend.

THE possibility of hosepipe bans being introduced in Burnham-On-Sea and the surrounding area have been reduced after a wet May. Bristol Water, which runs reservoirs in our area, said on Monday (June 5th) that water levels are now 96% full on average - 4% up on last week.

BREAN-based radio station Coast Radio is set to begin a second summer of transmissions in mid-June ahead of its full launch in August. Owner Josh Haywood told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that the temporary holiday station will start internet transmissions on June 14th.

BURNHAM's pro-wind farm group, FORCE (Families For Clean Energy), has hit out at town planners' decision to object to the plans to build a wind farm on the outskirts of the town. Spokeswoman Colette Winfield said: "We clearly regret the decision of the council not to back the plans."

PLANS for a phone mast in Burnham-On-Sea to be moved onto the town's seafront have been turned down by town planners this week. Burnham's planning committee discussed the matter on Tuesday evening (May 16th) and suggested the 15 metre-high be sited elsewhere.

A HIGHBRIDGE man who mugged an 85-year-old woman, leaving her too scared to leave her own home, has been given a three year prison sentence. Taunton Crown Court heard this week how Mark Parsons, 41, of Apex Drive, broke the lady's wrist when he snatched her bag.

Skaters propose park changes
MORE than 20 skateboarders flocked to a meeting of Burnham-On-Sea's Youth Town Council on Thursday evening (May 11th) to discuss how to improve the town's skating facilities. It followed complaints from several seafront residents regarding noise from skaters.
