A NEW-look tourism Web site promoting Burnham-On-Sea and Sedgemoor has been launched this week by a local tourism group. Sedgemoor Tourism Association has revamped its web site with a fresh new look in time for the start of the busy summer tourist season.

AN OUTDOOR market selling fresh farm produce WILL be held on Burnham-On-Sea's High Street after all. Town Centre Manager Anne-Marie Spalding (pictured) told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday (May 18th) that a deal had been struck with stallholders to allow the market to be held over the summer.

BURNHAM's pro-wind farm group, FORCE (Families For Clean Energy), has hit out at town planners' decision to object to the plans to build a wind farm on the outskirts of the town. Spokeswoman Colette Winfield said: "We clearly regret the decision of the council not to back the plans."

PLANS for a phone mast in Burnham-On-Sea to be moved onto the town's seafront have been turned down by town planners this week. Burnham's planning committee discussed the matter on Tuesday evening (May 16th) and suggested the 15 metre-high be sited elsewhere.

A HIGHBRIDGE man who mugged an 85-year-old woman, leaving her too scared to leave her own home, has been given a three year prison sentence. Taunton Crown Court heard this week how Mark Parsons, 41, of Apex Drive, broke the lady's wrist when he snatched her bag.

POLICE are appealing for information after a woman had her handbag stolen from a supermarket car park in Burnham-On-Sea. CONCERN about the speed of vehicles using Marine Drive in Burnham-On-Sea has led to a new mobile speed warning sign being introduced. Somerset County Council says it will provide the sign - similar to the one pictured here - for Burnham later in the summer. Councillors debated where the sign should be based.

BUMPER-sized eels were caught in the waters off Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (May 7th) when the town's Boat Owners Sea Angling Association staged its annual Tony Holly Trophy competition. Around 30 anglers took to the waters of Bridgwater Bay in 15 boats for the popular event.

TOWN councillors this week hit out at vandals who have deliberately painted over the words 'Burnham-On-Sea' on roadside signs leading into the town. Four signs leading into the area have been daubed with white paint in recent days, angering councillors, who have decided to leave them as they are for the time being.

Sea water quality to be tested
BATHING water in Burnham-On-Sea will come under scrutiny this week when the Environment Agency starts its annual programme of rigorous quality testing. Between May and September, 20 samples are taken from each of the 191 EU bathing waters. On Tuesday, it's the turn of Burnham and Brean.
BATHING water in Burnham-On-Sea will come under scrutiny this week when the Environment Agency starts its annual programme of rigorous quality testing. Between May and September, 20 samples are taken from each of the 191 EU bathing waters. On Tuesday, it's the turn of Burnham and Brean.

A FISHING boat became the latest victim of Burnham-On-Sea's treacherous mud and soft sand on Saturday afternoon (April 29th) after it became stranded at the end of the town's jetty. Boat owner Gerald Smith said he misjudged the tide and got stuck in the mud next to the jetty.
