Smile Walk is runaway success!
COLOURFUL costumes and strong walking shoes were the order of the day when over 30 Burnham and Highbridge residents took part in a fancy dress sponsored beach walk on Sunday afternoon (June 25th). Participants in the 'Smile Walk' started at Burnham-On-Sea Jetty.

Jazz event tickets go on sale
A FOOT-tapping line-up of jazz music will be performed by Roger Marks' Armada Jazz Band in July when Brent Knoll holds its annual Jazz on the Green event. Tickets have just gone on sale for the popular event, which this year will be held on Saturday July 15th at 7.30pm.

MORE than £5,000 was raised for Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre from this week's fundraising firewalk, the charity said on Saturday (June 24th). Earlier in the week, we reported that 28 people had walked across 20ft of burning embers during the event.

POLICE are concerned for the welfare of a missing man who is suffering from depression and who may be in Brean, near Burnham-On-Sea. Police say Ian Willis, 38, has not been seen since Friday 16th June. He was in the Weston-super-Mare area.

ORGANISERS of Burnham-On-Sea's popular annual outdoor concert, Under A Summer Moon, have announced the line-up of acts playing at the event. The event will be held from 7.30pm to midnight on Saturday July 15th with gates at the BASC ground opening from 6.30pm.

NECK ties are no longer a compulsory part of student's uniforms at a Burnham-On-Sea school after pupils voted to ditch them. From Friday, King Alfred School students in Year 7 have been able to remove their traditional ties and wear a new shirt bearing the school logo instead.

Town regatta plans announced
AN illuminated night-time procession of boats in the waters off Burnham will be one of the highlights of the 2006 Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club Regatta, which is set to be held over three days in June and July. The illuminated procession will be held on June 30th.

A HOLIDAYMAKER was taken to hospital on Saturday (June 10th) after injuring herself in a fall on Burnham beach. Phillis Phillips, who is believed to be in her 20s, stumbled after stepping into a hole whilst wandering along the beach - leaving her with a suspected broken ankle.

Swan dies as rescue bid fails
A SWAN which was caught by wildlife rescuers in Burnham-On-Sea earlier this week has died after a battle to remove a fishing hook from the bird's throat. The male swan was put down after the vet operating on him realised the damage was too extensive for surgical repair.

ASDA was formally given the go-ahead by planners to build its huge new proposed supermarket in Highbridge on Tuesday (June 6th). As reported last year, the store is planned for land formerly used by the Woodberry and Haines furniture company. It could create 100 new jobs.
