A YOUNG couple walking in treacherous mud almost a mile from the shore at Brean have been brought back to safety by Burnham's hovercraft. The craft and its crew were training in the area on Saturday January 21st when a member of the public spotted the pair walking to the sea at low tide.

BBC TV man to open RNLI shop
WORKMEN have been busy making final adjustments to Burnham-On-Sea's brand new lifeboat station shop, which is set to be officially opened by BBC TV sports presenter John Inverdale during February. The shop is situated on the seafront next to Sunspot Amusements and will also be open over the school half-term.

FIRE services were alerted on Saturday morning (January 21st) after residents in Burnham-On-Sea reported seeing plumes of 'smoke' over Hinkley Point power station. A tall pillar of 'white smoke' was visible for miles around Bridgwater Bay - but it turned out to be a false alarm when it was put down to harmless steam.

A BURNHAM-On-Sea St John Ambulance Brigade volunteer has been appointed MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list. Pat Comer, of Rosewood Avenue, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "I was quite surprised - I had no clues whatsoever!". She will be handed the honour by the Queen during 2006.

A 37-year-old Burnham-On-Sea man has died after apparently falling down the steps in a night-time accident at a High Street night club. Jonathan Cotton of Dyrham Close, Burnham, died after the tragic incident at Shakers Night Club during early December. He is beieved to have died the following day.
