Hula hoop fun raises £1,200
A CIRCUS troupe hosted a hula hoop challenge to raise money for the BBC's annual Children in Need at Sanders Garden World near Burnham-On-Sea on Friday. A group of clowns and hula hoopers from Circus Americano took part in the sponsored event, raising £1,200.

REACTORS at Hinkley Point power station near Burnham-On-Sea will re-open in January, it was announced by British Energy on Friday. Both the station's two advanced gas-cooled reactors are currently shut down after cracks were found in a reactor's graphite core and boiler pipes.

POLICE have named the woman who died on the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea's Sedgemoor Services last Friday morning, November 11th. Joan Harrill, 77, of Cheddar was pronounced dead at the scene following an apparent fall from an overbridge over the northbound carriageway.

ENVIRONMENT Agency bosses have contained a large oil spill in the River Brue at Highbridge after a major operation on Saturday (Nov 4th) to prevent the pollution spreading. Agency officials said the diesel oil appeared to have spilled into the river through a water inlet.
