Hula hoop fun raises £1,200
A CIRCUS troupe hosted a hula hoop challenge to raise money for the BBC's annual Children in Need at Sanders Garden World near Burnham-On-Sea on Friday. A group of clowns and hula hoopers from Circus Americano took part in the sponsored event, raising £1,200.

A BIZARRE High Court parking row has left a Burnham-On-Sea man facing a legal bill of thousands of pounds. Howard Rhys Jones may now be unable to park in the garage of his Oxford Street home after losing a claim to right of way over a small area of hard standing.

REACTORS at Hinkley Point power station near Burnham-On-Sea will re-open in January, it was announced by British Energy on Friday. Both the station's two advanced gas-cooled reactors are currently shut down after cracks were found in a reactor's graphite core and boiler pipes.

POLICE have named the woman who died on the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea's Sedgemoor Services last Friday morning, November 11th. Joan Harrill, 77, of Cheddar was pronounced dead at the scene following an apparent fall from an overbridge over the northbound carriageway.

BURNHAM-On-Sea's seafront has been given a £22,000 face-lift during the last fortnight. Work to spruce up seating shelters and redecorate metal work was completed on Friday. The project included an overhaul of roofs, the replacement of facias and metal work.

SEA water quality in Burnham, Brean and Berrow has been given the stamp of approval by DEFRA (The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) in a national survey announced on Thursday November 9th. Bathing water quality was tested during a nationwide survey.

DOZENS of huge carnival floats arrived in Burnham-On-Sea during the early hours of Sunday (Nov 5th) after travelling along the A38 to the town after Saturday's North Petherton carnival. A long snake of floats gathered along Queen's Drive (pictured) and the Frank Foley Parkway.

MORE than 20 members of Burnham's Royal British Legion gathered at the town's war memorial on Sunday (Nov 5th) to mark the rededication of the memorial in preparation for next Sunday's remembrance service. Prayers were led by acting chaplain, the Revd Ken Piper.

ENVIRONMENT Agency bosses have contained a large oil spill in the River Brue at Highbridge after a major operation on Saturday (Nov 4th) to prevent the pollution spreading. Agency officials said the diesel oil appeared to have spilled into the river through a water inlet.

A HUGE platform sprouted up on Burnham-On-Sea's jetty on Saturday (Nov 4th) as workmen prepared to use it as the launch pad for Sunday night's annual fireworks spectacular. Workers spent much of Saturday constructing the huge structure, which attracted onlookers.
