Woman injured in town crash
A WOMAN was rushed to hospital on Wednesday evening (July 26th) after a rush-hour accident in Burnham-On-Sea. The female driver of a red Fiat Punto collided with a parked van near to the town's Catholic Church on Burnham Road at around 6pm, leaving the the road blocked.
Call for more parking 'ignored'
TOWN councillors say their calls for more parking space outside a Burnham-On-Sea post office have been 'completely ignored.' Double yellow lines outside the Vicarage Street facility, pictured, are "excessive" and should be scaled back to allow for an extra parking bay.
Stert Island Swim this Sunday
A CROWD of up to 3,000 people is expected to line Burnham's seafront to watch the annual Stert Island Swim this Sunday (July 30th). A total of 80 intrepid swimmers from all over the South West will be participating in the 2,400m swim to Stert Island and back.

Seaside Fun Day announced
BURNHAM-On-Sea will hold its fourth annual Seaside Fun Day on the town's beach on Friday 4th August. Alongside market stalls and games along The Esplanade, there will also be a host of other activities, such as a sandcastle building competition, taking place.
Farmers' market back in town
MORE than 15 stalls will be set up along Burnham-On-Sea's High Street on Friday (July 28th) when an outdoor farmers' market comes to the town. Stallholders will sell a wide range of fresh produce in the centre of the High Street near Cross Street from 9am.

MP attacks coast path plan
WEST Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger has asked for a formal meeting over plans to build a new coastal path around the whole of Britain. The Countryside Agency is proposing that a path be constructed 100 yards inland right around the coastline for access to the foreshore.

BURNHAM-On-Sea's MP David Heathcoat-Amory has attacked controversial plans by Somerset County Council to build new wind farms at Brean, Edithmead and East Brent. The MP spoke out after the council confirmed it is investigating building new turbines.
Boy injured in Brean crash
A YOUNG boy riding a bicycle was rushed to hospital after a car collided with him at Brean on Saturday night (July 22nd). Police and paramedics rushed to the scene at 6.20pm after it was reported that a car had collided with the lad - believed to be aged 10.
Morris dancers delight crowds
A LIVELY mixture of music, movement and colour swept onto Burnham's seafront on Saturday (July 22nd) when 70 morris dancers performed in front of large crowds. The onlookers cheered as the dancers performed a range of traditional routines in full costumes.
Lifeguards' broken glass plea
BURNHAM-On-Sea lifeguards are appealing to people who take bottles of drink onto the town's beach and sea wall steps to remove their empty bottles afterwards following several accidents in which children have cut themselves on broken glass this week.
Berrow hosts 'Discovery Day'
WILDLIFE enthusiasts are to hold a 'Dunes Discovery Day' at Berrow Nature Reserve next weekend to help raise awareness of the importance of the land. A range of activities will take place on July 29th from 2-5pm such as pond dipping and plant hunting.
Town motorist hailed a hero
BURNHAM-On-Sea motorist Greg Facey is being hailed a hero after running after and capturing the driver of a car who had injured him in an accident and allegedly tried to run away. Greg, 25, was taken to Weston General Hospital on Thursday evening (July 20th).
Burks: 'Let's work together'
THE boss of Sanders Garden World, Peter Burks, told traders in Burnham-On-Sea this week that he wanted to work with them to build prosperity in the town. He was speaking to more than 40 traders at the town's Chamber of Trade meeting in the Ritz Social Club.
Pig race is runaway success!
CROWDS of onlookers turned out to watch Brean Leisure Park's first pig racing and donkey derby of the summer season this week. Tuesday's event raised money for local good causes and is the traditional curtain-raiser to several weeks of summer events at the park.

Mopeds used to tackle crime
POLICE officers in Burnham-On-sea and Highbridge are getting on their bikes to tackle crime with the introduction of two new mopeds. The vehicles have been introduced in the towns to help officers patrol the streets more effectively than with motorbikes.
Berrow caravan fire put out
BURNHAM fire crews rushed to Unity Farm at Berrow late on Tuesday night (July 18th) after nearby residents dialled 999 after reporting that a caravan had 'blown up'. Two fire engines from Burnham attended the scene and found one caravan well alight.
Free operatic concert in town
A FREE operatic music concert is set to take place at a Burnham-On-Sea garden centre during August. Professional operatic tenor singer and songwriter Tim Pitman, 36, from Radstock will be performing at Sanders Garden World on August 23rd from 2pm-4pm.

Boy injured in sea wall fall
A BOY was rushed to hospital with head injuries after a freak accident on the steps of Burnham's sea wall on Sunday afternoon (July 16th). The 12-year-old from Bridgwater slipped on some seaweed and fell backwards onto the concrete, injuring his head.

A FORMER King Alfred School student has successfully completed 32 weeks of the world's toughest physical training to become a Royal Marines Commando. Lee Whitfield, a 26-year-old from Highbridge, passed out at the Commando Training Centre in Lympstone, Devon.
Yachts take to the sky!
EYES were on the skies above Burnham-On-Sea this week when a huge crane winched yachts from the sailing club into the River Brue. The delicate operation to move a trimaran and two yachts was carried out over several hours and took advantage of the calm weather.
OFSTED praises Infant School
OFSTED school inspectors have praised Burnham-On-Sea Infant School as 'outstanding' in a brand new report released this week. The school, which is based in Winchester Road and has almost 200 pupils, was visited by inspectors at the end of May, who were clearly impressed by what they found.
Local children join musical
SCHOOL children from Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge and Berrow are among 200 youngsters from across the county who are to stage a performance of a musical celebrating Somerset life. The musical evening will be held at the Colston Hall venue in Bristol.

COLOURFUL costumes and strong walking shoes were the order of the day when over 30 Burnham and Highbridge residents took part in a fancy dress sponsored beach walk on Sunday afternoon (June 25th). Participants in the 'Smile Walk' started at Burnham-On-Sea Jetty.
