Hinkley gas leak posed no risk
ONE person was injured and scores of staff were evacuated at Hinkley Point power station near Burnham-On-Sea when three tonnes of Carbon Dioxide escaped during an incident last week. British Energy said on Monday (Sep 18th) that local people should not be worried.
Carnival queen search begins

Half marathon entries to close
RUNNERS in Burnham-On-Sea have just a few days left to submit their entries for the town's annual half marathon, which is set to return in October. The Burnham-On-Sea Half Marathon restarted last year after a 12 year absence and will be held on Sunday, October 1st.

Beach anglers reel in eels
MORE than 80 anglers lined the water's edge at Burnham on Sunday afternoon (September 17th) when scores of eels were caught during a beach fishing competition. A total of 83 anglers took part in the four hour event, which organisers said had gone very well.

Air ambulance called to Brean

Two hoax 999 callers arrested
TWO men were arrested on Thursday (Sep 14th) after making a series of hoax 999 calls which included one to the Coastguard claiming that people were trapped in mud on a beach near Burnham-On-Sea. A total of 12 'emergency' calls were made to police.

Burglars in warehouse attack
BURGLARS stole thousand of pounds of high-tech equipment during a warehouse raid on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea during the early hours of Wednesday (September 13th). They targeted a building on the Isleport Business Park owned by a communications firm.

Elver fisherman is banned
AN ANGLER has been banned from elver fishing for two years after being caught using an illegal net on the River Parrett near Burnham-On-Sea. The Environment Agency said on Wednesday (September 6th) that Jason Riddle had also been fined £140 and had his net confiscated.
NHS dental provision attacked
THE lack of NHS dental provision in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge is "unacceptable" and needs to be addressed by health bosses according to town councillors this week. Councillor Joanna Burridge said there are too few dentists offering NHS dental services.
Final rehearsals for town show

Long service award for Alan
ONE of Burnham-On-Sea's longest serving members of the Special Constabulary has retired after 21 years in the job. Alan Matthews has become a familiar face in the Burnham and Highbridge areas throughout his years of service, which began when he joined as a special in 1985.
