BURNHAM-On-Sea's Burnbridge Diabetes Group have helped fund the cost of a child's diabetes holiday by this week presenting a cheque for £200 to Musgrove Children's Diabetes Department. A cheque was handed over during a ceremony in which respresentatives from Musgrove received a cheque.

SEVERAL miles of sand dunes running along the top of the beach at Berrow, Brean and Burnham-On-Sea have been cut back by this week's high tides and storm waves - but wildlife bosses say there is no need to worry because the dunes will quickly recover in 'just months'.

POLICE have issued a photo of a man they want to speak to in connection with a series of burglaries in Burnham-On-Sea, Taunton, Bridgwater and Berrow. Throughout the last month there have been a number of break-ins which police believe are linked. They are appealing for help.

ONE person is in hospital after a four car collision in Berrow over the weekend. Paramedics, police and fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea rushed to the entrance to Unity Farm Holiday Park after the serious accident, which temporarily closed the road causing delays for motorists.

Radiolink scheme gets boost
A SCHEME to link police, traders and pub landlords in Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge and Brean is going from strength to strength after winning a grant this week from the Safer Sedgemoor Partnership. Burnham Radiolink was set up in April 2000 and has been vital in helping to fight crime in the area.

BURNHAM-On-Sea Police issued a fresh appeal for information on Friday (October 6th) about an arson attack on two barns in East Huntspill. As first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com, the fire happened at about 1am on Sept 24th at Smithy Farm when two barns were destroyed.

ENVIRONMENT Agency bosses have issued a precautionary Flood Watch for the Bristol Channel coastline extending from Porlock to Avonmouth - which includes Burnham, Brean and Berrow - but they are still saying that the risk of major flooding this weekend is low.

TWO major planning applications to build more than 200 new homes in Highbridge have been unveiled this week. Derek Mead, the man behind the successful bid to build an Asda supermarket in Highbridge, has submitted an application to build almost 170 homes.

QUICK thinking by an electrician in Highbridge helped save a man's life earlier this week. Becky Wilkinson, a Sedgemoor District Council electrician, spotted an elderly man had collapsed near to his home in Morland Road after suffering a heart attack and raised the alarm.

11 vehicles taken off the road
BURNHAM-On-Sea police launched a major operation to crack down on speeding motorists along the town's seafront on Thursday night (Sep 28th). In an operation lasting the whole evening, eleven vehicles were taken off the road and five fixed penalty notices were issued.

PARAMEDICS and fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea rushed to the centre of Berrow on Thursday evening (Sep 28th) after a fire in a bungalow injured one person. Paramedics treated a lady for the effects of smoke inhalation and burns after the blaze started at 4.40pm.

AN ELECTRICAL fault on one of Burnham's decorative lights was likely to blame for a six-night blackout along the town's seafront earlier this week. Somerset County Council's street lighting team were called to the Esplanade after 17 street lights were knocked out.

Folkfest to expand in 2007
BURNHAM-On-Sea's successful Folkfest is set to return in 2007 as a three-day event. The inaugural event was held over two days earlier this month and attracted such large numbers of musicians and fans that organisers have decided to expand it next year with a third day.

FIRE crews from across Somerset tackled a huge blaze on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea in the early hours of Sunday. The fire service received numerous calls from the public at 1am alerting them to a fire at Church Road in East Huntspill. On arrival, they found two large five-bay barns well alight.

A GROUP of Burnham-On-Sea fundraisers are celebrating the 20th year of their organisation, during which time they have raised a mammoth £150,000 for the purchase of medical equipment in the town. The Community Medical Equipment Fund was formed in 1986.

CONTROVERSIAL plans to build 16 homes on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea could be decided by planners next week. In August, Chelvey Homes had submitted an application to demolish a bungalow at 55a Huntspill Road and replace it with new homes.
