BURNHAM-On-Sea's new holiday brochure for 2007 has been published this week. Over 70,000 copies of the free 55-page booklet have been printed and are set to be circulated across hundreds of tourist information centres and travel agents around the country.

BURNHAM-On-Sea's jetty is to close for emergency repairs after this week's storms caused thousands of pounds of damage, as pictured here. Large waves whipped up by gale-force winds took their toll on the landmark, raising coping stones and washing away several parts of the tarmac surface.

A MOTORCYLIST had a lucky escape when he came off his bike while travelling along the A38 near Burnham-On-Sea on Friday (January 5th). Police and paramedics from Burnham rushed to the scene at Edithmead but they found the motorcyclist had only minor injuries.

BURNHAM-On-Sea's new Active Living Centre, which opens this week, has unveiled its busy programme of activities for the next few months. The new centre launched last month and holds its first session on Friday (January 5th), to be followed by further sessions.

THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for a local charity when hardy fundraisers from Burnham-On-Sea took a sponsored dip in the English Channel at the weekend. Nine fundraisers took part in the annual sea swim at Lyme Regis on Saturday morning (December 30th).

ONE of Burnham-On-Sea's longest running companies has been taken over this week and looks set to be renamed. JH Palmer and Sons Estate Agents in the High Street was established in 1851 and just been taken over by the huge property chain Greenslade Taylor Hunt.

£2m overhaul for M5 at Burnham
A MAJOR project to introduce a quieter, safer road surface on the M5 at Burnham-On-Sea is scheduled to begin on January 8th. The work, costing £2 million, will take place between Junctions 22 and 23 and will involve improving drainage as well as resurfacing the carriageway, the Highways Agency said on Friday.

CONTROVERSIAL plans to extend the closing time at Burnham-On-Sea Bowling Club until 2am have been withdrawn. Sedgemoor District Council's Licensing and Registration Committee had been due to decide last week whether the club could open late on 24 nights a year.

PLUCKY volunteers from Burnham will be braving the waters of the English Channel next Saturday (December 30th) to raise funds for local charity Secret World. The volunteers will pull on a range of costumes as they perform their annual sea swim at Lyme Regis.

HINKLEY Point B, near Burnham-On-Sea, will not return to operation until March, the power station operator British Energy said on Thursday (Dec 21st). The company had said earlier this week that one of the reactors at the plant would be back in operation by January.

TICKETS have gone on sale this week for a fundraising event to help Burnham's ambulance station upgrade some of its specialist equipment. The race night will be held on January 27th at Lakeside in Westfield Road and aims to raise £3,000 to upgrade equipment used by Burnham paramedics.

THE long-overdue clean-up of a Burnham-On-Sea footpath was completed on Saturday (December 16th) after two district councillors intervened in a long-running dispute. Arthur Thorogood and Bob Filmer armed themselves with gardening tools to clear away the overgrown foliage.
