Horse box gets that sinking feeling!
SOFT sand proved too much for a lorry carrying several horses when it became stuck on Berrow Beach, near Burnham-On-Sea, on Sunday afternoon (Feb 4th). Owner Helen Smith had to call for assistance from a local farmer to have the vehicle pulled free.
Jetty launch permits set to rise?
THE cost of launching boats from Burnham-On-Sea's storm-damaged jetty could rise in order to fund much-needed repairs, it was confirmed this week. Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last month that Sedgemoor District Council had closed the landmark after a series of storms damaged the surface.
'Upmarket' coffee shop to open
A NEW 'upmarket' coffee shop is set to open in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea later this month. Entrepreneur Robin Luxon has taken over the former lifeboat station, next to the town's current RNLI HQ in Pier Street, and is spending a further £25,000 on turning it into a coffee shop.
BBC gardener comes to town
BBC gardening personality Tom Hart Dyke will be visiting a Burnham-On-sea garden centre during March to host an afternoon talk and book signing session to tie in with the launch of his new TV series. The plantsman will be at Sanders Garden World on Friday March 9th.
4x4 response group in town
SCORES of Land Rover owners and 4x4 enthusiasts were in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (Feb 3rd) for the annual meeting of the Wessex 4x4 Response Association. Members came from across Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Wiltshire to the Lighthouse Inn.
Berrow song is tracked down
A SONG that was inspired by the death of a fisherman and his wife on Berrow beach is to be performed in the village later this month. 'On Berrow Sand' was written by renowned song writer Fred Weatherley, who also wrote 'Danny Boy' and 'Roses of Picardy'.
Coast FM bids to extend hours
BREAN'S summer radio station Coast FM looks set to go on air for two months this summer - doubling its previous transmission time. Owner Josh Haywood, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that the temporary station has applied to radio regulator Ofcom for an eight week licence.
Paramedics treat motorist
BURNHAM-On-Sea paramedics came to the aid of an elderly motorist who suffered breathing problems after being involved in a two-vehicle accident on the outskirts of the town on Friday morning (Feb 2nd). Police and paramedics rushed to the A38 at West Huntspill.
Angry residents call for CCTV

LOCAL opera singer Tim Pitman received a five-minute standing ovation at the conclusion of his latest concert held near Burnham-On-Sea this week. Over 170 people filled East Huntspill Church for the 90-minute performance when Tim sang a wide range of opera music.
Multiple crashes hold up traffic
TRAFFIC on the M5 motorway at Burnham-On-Sea was brought to a standstill on Thursday morning (February 1st) following a series of accidents. A car crashed into the central reservation near Sedgemoor Services on the northbound carriageway at 6.50am.

OVER 160 young people from across the Burnham-On-Sea area gathered in St John's Church, Highbridge to take part in a special 'Youth Makes Music' concert organised by the town's Rotary Club. The idea was to bring together local schools to promote music.

400th anniversary of tsunami
A SUSPECTED tsunami in the Bristol Channel which killed 2,000 people and devastated Burnham-On-Sea 400 years ago on Tuesday (Jan 30th) is being remembered. According to historical records, the severe flooding occured on 30th January 1607.

DISTRICT planners have this week turned down a bid to construct 43 holiday homes at a leisure complex in Brean, near Burnham-On-Sea. Sedgemoor's Development Control Committee refused permission for the construction of 43 lodges on land south of Diamond Farm.
