CONTROVERSIAL plans for a new wind farm in Burnham-On-Sea were unveiled on Sunday (April 1st). One of the proposed 300ft wind turbines could be sited between Quantock Court and the Yacht Club and others are planned for the dunes near the town's lighthouse.

BURNHAM-On-Sea firefighters were called out in the early hours of Saturday (March 31st) to deal with an accident involving two cars on the M5 motorway near the town. One fire appliance from Burnham and another from Weston were alerted at 3am to the incident on the southbound carriageway.

CRIME and regeneration will be the two main discussion points at Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge's 33rd annual town meeting in April. The meeting, to be held on Wednesday April 11th, will be held in the town council's Jaycroft Road chambers from 7pm and will be open to the public.

GRAFFITI vandals have struck again in Highbridge this week, daubing more messages on walls and fences in several areas of the town, much to the concern of local residents. In the latest incidents, Southwell House, Wade House and Alpha House have all been targeted.

A NEW charity shop was officially opened in Highbridge by the town's Mayor on Friday morning (March 30th). Eric Gill and Mayoress Gilli Kenyon-Gill did the honours for the British Institute for Brain Injured Children when its new shop opened in Church Street.

Work on demolishing a well-known Highbridge landmark has this week been completed as construction vehicles moved onto the site to begin work on building a multi-million pound housing estate. MIKE Mansfield, Chairman of Burnham-On-Sea's Town Twinning Association, welcomed a group of visitors from France on Thursday (March 22nd) at the start of their week-long stay in the town. 19 pupils and staff are visiting from Louvigne, the town which is twinned with Burnham.

CALM weather meant this week's series of very high 'spring tides' passed without any problems in Burnham-On-Sea. Earlier in the week, stormy seas had led Somerset's coastline to be put on a routine Flood Watch by the Environment Agency, extending from Porlock to Avonmouth.
