£70,000 upgrade for town cinema
Exclusive: A £70,000 state-of-the-art digital projector capable of screening 3D films is being planned for Burnham-On-Sea's Ritz Cinema. The Ritz Cinema's owners, Pat and Beryl Scott, took over the popular entertainment venue in Victoria Street exactly five years ago and the couple have this week revealed their plans to upgrade the facilities to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
M5 fully re-opens after crash
THIS was the scene on the M5 near Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday evening (November 15th) after an accident caused delays for motorists. Fire and ambulance crews from Burnham were called to the M5 northbound carriageway at 7pm after a car collided with the central reservation north of junction 22 at Burnham.
Bond night to be held in town
BURNHAM-On-Sea residents are being invited to dust off their tuxedos and step into the world of James Bond when a Casino Royale evening is held in the town's Princess Hall next month. Organised by The Friends of The Princess, the event will be on the evening of Friday 4th December.

Six out of six for Hillview!
BURNHAM-On-Sea's £14,000 carnival float made it six out of six by wowing judges at Glastonbury Carnival on Saturday night (November 14th), winning first place in its class. Members of Hillview Juvenile Carnival Club were celebrating after their float, called Gee Wiz, was awarded the top place in the juvenile class.
Storms cause damage in town
GUSTS of up to 75mph and heavy rain gave the Burnham-On-Sea area a battering overnight into Saturday (November 14th) with dozens of homes losing power and damage being caused to signs and trees. A power cut near the village of Mark left dozens of people without power for several hours.

M5 delays after fatal bridge fall
MOTORISTS on the M5 travelling through the Burnham-On-Sea area faced long delays on Thursday afternoon (November 12th) after a man fell to his death from a footbridge. Police closed the southbound carriageway of the M5 near Bridgwater's junction 23 shortly after 4pm.
Row over shelter removal
Exclusive: A row has broken out in Burnham-On-Sea over Sedgemoor District Council's removal of a Victorian shelter on the town's seafront. Teens jailed after race attacks
THREE teenagers have this week been jailed over a number of racist attacks on Asian shopkeepers in Bristol. Nicholas Gardener, from Burnham-On-Sea, and twins Luke and Justin Lovedale, all aged 17, were each handed 18 month sentences on Wednesday (November 11th).
Shop attacked for second time
A FORMER cafe in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea has been attacked by vandals for the second time in a fortnight, prompting the owners to question whether their business is being targeted. Fire drama at Highbridge Hotel
THESE were the scenes in Highbridge this evening (Tuesday, November 10th) when firefighters from Burnham were called to tackle a blaze at the site of the former Highbridge Hotel. They rushed to the cattle market site next to the derelict Highbridge Hotel amid concern that a large bonfire might get out of control.

A GROUP of supporters and members of Burnham-On-Sea's Nathan Edwards Tennis Academy got on their bikes to raise money for the organisation on Sunday afternoon (November 8th). A sponsored bike ride from Burnham to Berrow along the beach raised over £1,000 for the group.
Police called to illegal food seller
Exclusive: AN illegal burger van parked in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea angered traders by pinching their trade during the town's fireworks on Sunday evening (Sunday, November 8th). Police were called to Pier Street after the van selling burgers set up shop in a taxi rank.

Gremlins hit seafront fireworks
ELECTRICAL problems delayed the start of Burnham-On-Sea's annual seafront fireworks display by almost 50 minutes this evening (Sunday 8th November), but the crowds were treated to a dazzling display. The thousands of spectators who lined the seafront were kept waiting for 47 minutes while Skyburst, the company behind the display, tried to fix problems.

Subway creates 10 jobs in town
Exclusive: A FORMER butcher's shop on Burnham-On-Sea High Street will be transformed into a new Subway cafe in the New Year, ending a year of speculation about where the chain will be based. Mike Bond, the entreprenuer who owns the licence to open a Subway in the town confirmed on Friday (November 6th) that the new business will open its doors in January.

Town crier's funeral announced
THE date for the funeral of Burnham-On-Sea's late town crier has been announced. As we reported last week, Fred Smith, 72, died on October 23rd following a long struggle with poor health. His funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon, 11th November, at 1pm in Bridgwater.
