VISITORS to Highbridge's Apex Park took part in a wildlife-themed clay making workshop on Saturday (April 3rd). Led by Burnham-On-Sea artist Margaret Micklewright, the youngsters were encouraged to find natural objects at the park to use for clay modelling throughout the day.

Exhibition showcases local artists
MORE than 100 paintings from eighteen local artists were on display at an exhibition in Burnham-On-Sea over the Easter weekend. The town's Community Centre in Berrow Road hosted the three-day show, which was free to enter. Water colours, acryclics and pastels were on show.

CCTV appeal after fuel theft
Exclusive: BURNHAM-On-Sea police have released these CCTV pictures and video of a man they want to speak to following the theft of some fuel from a local petrol station. Officers are keen to identify the man, who may be able to help them with their investigation into the fuel theft at a garage in Brent Knoll.

FIREFIGHTERS rushed to the Highbridge Hotel on Friday night (April 2nd) after concerns that the building could be alight. One fire engine from Burnham was sent to the property at 10pm, as pictured here, to investigate. A local resident had reported seeing a red glow inside the property.

THE 60th anniversary of Burnham-On-Sea's Inner Wheel group was celebrated at a formal dinner on Wednesday (March 31st). The celebratory event was held at Batch Country Hotel in Lympsham, and was attended by 145 guests including many from other clubs and the Rotary Club.

Exclusive: PLANS have been drawn up for a new cable car service to be launched in Brean Down to make it easier for walkers to get to the top. The commercial sevice could come into operation for the start of the 2011 summer season to meet new government guidelines on accessibility.

A CLEAN-up operation was underway at Burnham Sailing Club on Wednesday (March 31st) after gale-forced winds and high tides left a trail of damage. The wooden walkway leading onto the pontoons was broken, as pictured, and several boats also slipped their moorings during the bad weather.

HUGE waves gave Burnham-On-Sea's seafront a hammering this morning (March 31st) after strong gales swept in at the same time as one of the highest tides of the year. These were the scenes on The Esplanade by the tourist information centre when the 11.9 metre tide reached its peak just after 8am.

BURNHAM-On-Sea's Air Training Corps was given a financial boost during a flying visit by a local County Councillor on Tuesday evening (March 30th). Cllr John Woodman visited Burnham's 290 Squadron Air Training Corps and presented them with a cheque for £250 from his community fund.

Exclusive: FAST food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken has this week denied rumours that it is planning to open a store in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea. The company had been linked to the former job centre in Burnham High Street, which remains vacant and on sale. A spokesman for the multi-national company ended the speculation on Tuesday.

TICKETS have gone on sale for a black tie ball to raise funds for a new £60,000 rescue hovercraft in Burnham-On-Sea. The event is being jointly overseen by The Rotary Club of Burnham, in partnership with BARB, and will be held at the Batch Country Hotel in Lympsham next month.

MEMBERS of a Highbridge volleyball team are celebrating this week after scooping four trophies. King Alfred School's volleyball teams have won the haul of silverware after a successful season in the South West Junior Volleyball Grand Prix. THE driver of a car was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after overturning on the M5 near Burnham-On-Sea on Monday afternoon (March 29th). Emergency services were called to Highbridge's junction 23 at 12.10pm after the vehicle flipped over after hitting the central reservation on the southbound carriageway.

A TEAM of Ju Jitsu martial arts enthusiasts from Burnham-On-Sea have won five medals at a national competition. The group, from Burnham-On-Sea's KJ2 Martial Arts Club, entered the UK Premier Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships in Bristol, which were attended by 400 competitors.

FIREFIGHTERS rushed to Burnham-On-Sea's Swim and Sports Academy on Sunday evening (March 28th) after reports of smoke being seen above the building. Fire crews were sent to the property in Berrow Road but they were relieved to find the incident was a false alarm with good intent.

DOZENS of youngsters took part in the annual Easter run to the top of Brent Knoll on Saturday afternoon (March 27th). The annual race is held from outside the village's primary school and this year's event saw almost 100 children and parents making their way to the summit.

OVER 50 Burnham-On-Sea churchgoers have taken part in a traditonal procession through the town - complete with a real donkey - to mark Palm Sunday. Residents carrying crosses and palms walked from St Andrew's Church into Victoria Street and along The Esplanade.

ANGRY cider makers across the Burnham-On-Sea area are backing several online campaigns to make the Chancellor re-think his increase on cider duty announced in the Budget. TWO rock climbers who were feared to be cut off by the high tide at Brean Down prompted the launch of a Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat and a team of Coastguards on Friday afternoon (March 26th). A nearby resident was concerned for the welfare of the pair and called Coastguards at just before 4pm.

Exclusive: A SEAFRONT bar in Burnham-On-Sea has been fined hundreds of pounds for serving alcohol to an under-age customer. The owner of Chaplins on The Esplanade has appeared before Sedgemoor Magistrates, where he received a £265 fine plus £250 costs after a customer aged under 18 was served.

Exclusive: An £8million project to create a new swimming pool and cinema complex in Brean has this week been given a green light by district council planners. Construction work is already underway at Brean Leisure Park, as pictured, with the first phase of work scheduled to be completed this summer.

Asbestos killed Burnham man
A LETTER written by a deceased Burnham-On-Sea man has been read out at his own inquest. The dramatic letter was read out at the inquest into the death of Geoffrey Matthews, 72, who died last year after working with asbestos for a number of years. A postmortem report was also read out at the hearing in Bridgwater.
