Burnham pedestrian crossing completed after safety fears raised

-

Users of a Burnham-On-Sea pedestrian crossing have this week welcomed the completion of work to restore safety markings there.

Until Monday this week, the zebra crossing in Berrow Road, close to the junction with Rectory Road, had not had its usual white painted road markings after roadworks were carried out there last month.

One nearby resident contacted Burnham-On-Sea.com to raise awareness of the condition of the crossing, adding that it is a risk to partially-sighted pedestrians who rely on the markings as indicators to cross the road safely.

Contractors working for Somerset County Council completed the work on Monday. A spokesman said: “This stretch of Berrow Road was recently improved using a technique called surface dressing.”

“Following this we had to wait a short time until loose chippings were removed before we could reinstate the road markings.”
