A huge seven metre tall climbing wall was one of the attractions at Burnham-On-Sea’s first youth festival, held on Sunday (June 21st).
The free YouthFest was run by Burnham Youth Town Council and Burnham and District Lions Club and saw a large crowd of youngsters flocking to the Manor Gardens.
Among the other activities were ju-jitsu demonstrations, a youth dance group, an African drumming band, a karaoke competition, and live music from local groups.
Peter and Jo Burridge-Clayton, the event’s organisers (pictured above), told Burnham-On-Sea.com they were delighted with the first event.
“There were a good range of activities and a steady stream of youngsters throughout the day,” said Peter.
“We’ve had lots of postive feedback and hope to make this an annual event, possibly being held in July next year.”
Other groups taking part included The Shed Youth Club, Morland Youth Centre, Highbridge Dreamscheme, Burnham Police, King Alfred School, KASdanz, an African drumming band, BEES and Monarchs Gymnastics Club.
St John Cadets, Burnham Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Force Cadets, the YMCA, King Alfred Sports Centre, Burnham Ju-Jitsu group and Burnham rescue group BARB were also in attendance.
Burnham and District Lions Club, who donated £750 to help with the event’s funding, were also pleased with how the afternoon had gone.
Its President, Andrew Bryant, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s great to see Manor Gardens busy with a positive event like this. The Lions are very happy to support this.”
