A newly-formed Burnham-On-Sea choir for young people aged up to 18 has been launched this week.
The ‘Burnham Youth Choir’ is the new name for the group formerly called ‘The Siobhan Johnson Singers Junior Choir’ which won many awards for its performances over the years.
Leader Siobhan Johnson told Burnham-On-Sea.com why the new group has been formed: “I feel this is the next progression for the choir so they can sing together as a community and represent their local town when performing.”
“The songs we sing are all taught and performed in harmony to a high standard with many following the original West End and Broadway scores.”
“This enables me to bring the experience of the professional shows and stage to local children who love the achievement of performing such profiled songs.”
She added: “We are a modern-day, fun choir and sing a whole variety of popular songs from musicals, films to pop music. There is no need to read music or have previous singing experience as full professional training is given.”
The age range for the choir is 8 yrs – 18yrs and is aimed at boys and girls. It meets on Tuesdays from 5.15pm – 6.15pm at Burnham Community Centre in Berrow Road.
The meetings are held on a pay-as-you-go basis and those interested in joining should contact Siobhan on 01278 751115 or come along any Tuesday.
The Burnham Youth Choir’s first performance will be at ‘The Rotary Club of Burnham’s Christmas Carol Service’ at St Andrew’s Church in Burnham on Saturday 14th December from 6.30pm.
“This will be a superb evening of Christmas carols for the whole community to join in,” she added.
“Following a recent performance for the local festival we were approached by the Rotary Club who requested our presence at their Community Carol Service, to which, I was extremely honoured to accept on their behalf.”
