Highbridge Young Farmers seek new members in recruitment drive

-

You don’t have to be a farmer to become a member of Highbridge Young Farmers.

That’s the message to young people in the Burnham-On-Sea area this week as they are being invited to join up.

Highbridge Young Farmers Club is seeking new members and says the cliché that Young Farmers’ Clubs are only for people from farming backgrounds is far from the truth.

“Being a Young Farmer is not just about tractors, herding cows and flat caps – it’s so much more that that!” the group’s social secretary Rhea Kellow told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Young farmers is all about getting like-minded young people to have fun, learn new activities and skills and achieve lots.”

“As part of the 24 clubs in Somerset, Highbridge YFC are seeking new members to take part in activities such as stock judging, drama & public speaking, county rally & handicrafts, sports and more.”

Highbridge YFC is a club that are no strangers to being seen on a stage, always getting stuck in with entertainments, pantomimes, dramas and putting on an annual harvest supper show for parents and advisory members.

Alongside this, the group have dusted off their trainers and got stuck in with sports such as hockey, football and dodgeball as well as taking to the ski slopes of Les Arcs 1800.

Rhea added: “When it comes to a competition or challenge Highbridge YFC do not shy away! Recently we competed at the south west area for YFC in Weymouth representing Somerset in Junior Member of the year, Ballroom dancing, Just a minute speaking and situations vacant with very promising results.”

When Highbridge YFC are not turning their hands to on-stage events or sport, charity is always at the top of its agenda.

“Supporting local charities such as ‘In Charley’s Memory’ ‘Rural Plus Campaign’ and ‘Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance’ are just a few of long list of charities that we have helped.”

Joining the Young Farmers’ Club could be the gateway to a whole world of new opportunities, adds Rhea.

“From meeting friends you will keep for life, to discovering a skill you never even knew you had.”

“There is so much more to Young Farmers than wellies and tractors. So if you are aged between 10 and 26 and want to get involved in something new, then Young Farmers is for you!”

“You certainly don’t need to be a farmer; in fact you don’t even need to own a pair of wellies. Young Farmers’ Clubs will give you a great social life, friends for life and an opportunity to learn new skills.”
