This yacht was left high and dry after it ran aground in Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday afternoon (May 20th).

The sailing yacht, called Enchanted, got into difficulty during a picnic trip just after 1pm when it drifted onto a mudbank where the River Brue meets the Parrett near Burnham Sailing Club.

A boat from the club went out and took three of the occupants safely off the yacht before the receding tide then left the yacht and its skipper stranded for over nine hours.

The skipper radioed Coastguards to inform them that he had ample provisions of food and drink for the day and did not require any further help.

Burnham Sailing Club’s commodore, Erik Torkildsen, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The yacht drifted over onto the shelf at the entrance to the Brue while returning to the club – they were simply unlucky.”

The yacht was finally re-floated on the evening’s high tide, pictured below, at 10.20pm and was safely moored on the Sailing Club Pontoons soon after.
