Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club holds annual spring yacht ‘crane-in’

-

High winds failed to affect Burnham-On-Sea’s annual spring ‘crane-in’ on Sunday (April 1st) when 22 boats were lifted into the River Brue.

The delicate operation to move the boats was carried out over several hours and had been in jeopardy due to 40mph onshore winds.

But Sailing Club Commodore Terry Moule, pictured, and other Sailing Club organisers decided to cautiously proceed.

A total of 22 yachts were craned into the river by two huge cranes and two winter fishing boats were taken out.

Towering over the skyline of Burnham, the activity drew crowds of onlookers. The specatacle traditionally marks the start of Burnham’s spring sailing season.
