Trophies and certificates handed to Burnham and Highbridge winners

-

The winners of Burnham and Highbridge’s annual Christmas lights competition have received their prizes this week.

The town’s Deputy Mayor, Dennis Davey, handed out the certificates and trophies during the council’s latest meeting held on Monday (19th January).

Town councillors Pat Burge and Tom Nicholls, right, visited scores of displays across the two towns before picking the winners last month.

In Burnham-On-Sea, the best house award went to Sally Cornish at 40 Love Lane (pictured right) while the runner-up was Barbara Morgan at 1 St Christopher Way.

In Highbridge, the best house award went to Sharon Bowcott at 25 Smith Way with the runner-up Gemma Baillie at 6 Mallard Place.

The award for the best group of illuminated houses went to 6 and 8 Stoneleigh Close.

First place in the best-decorated business category, judged by Cllr Dennis Davey and Town Centre Manager Bev Milner Simonds, pictured right, went to Flowers & Things at 55 The High Street while the runner-up was Highbridge DIY in Highbridge’s Market Street.

Cllr Nicholls added: “We have been impressed by the entries this year, which were up on last year but there are a lot more beautifully decorated homes that do not register for the competition. If you know a neighbour or a friend who enjoys decorating their residence at Christmas why not suggest they join in the Town Council competition this year.”
