Businesses in Burnham-On-Sea town centre say trade during the run-up to Christmas has been mostly positive.
While some shops in the town have failed to benefit from a seasonal uplift due to the wider economic gloom, the majority have reported brisk business over the festive period.
Burnham-On-Sea.com has spoken to a cross-section of shops this week to gather feedback.
Miranda Bennett at Bastins said: “We’ve been really busy in the last couple of weeks after a slow start at the beginning of December. It’s picked up and we’ve hit our sales targets.”
Catrina Noonan at Shoe Zone added: “Trade has fluctuated a lot over the last few weeks, but overall it’s been positive. Pairs of slippers have been our biggest seller this Christmas!”
Lauren Keen at Sentiments added: “We’ve seen very positive trade in the run-up to Christmas and are pleased with how it’s gone.”
Les Barber at Bessies Sweet Shoppe agreed it had been a positive period: “We’ve been very busy – it’s great to see people supporting local businesses by doing their Christmas shopping in Burnham.”
And Colin Morris at GW Hurley added: “Trade has been fair, but not fantastic. It’s not been an amazing Christmas but we are up on last year.”
