Burnham-On-Sea groups get into festive spirit at Christmas parties

-

Members of two Burnham-On-Sea groups catering for local people with learning difficulties – The Monday Club and Gateway Club – have this week celebrated Christmas with two fun-filled parties.

The Monday Club gathered at the Oaktree Arena for a traditional lunch where members, carers and volunteers enjoyed the party and a visit by Burnham’s Mayor, Cllr Ken Smout, who handed out several surprise gifts to complete the festivities.

And Burnham and Highbridge Gateway Club held its annual Christmas Dinner at the town’s Rosewood Pub. Ninety members and helpers made up the biggest party the Club has ever held.

The Monday Club received a donation from Mencap Bridgwater and money raised by the members also made it a successful day. Club organiser Julia Elswood said: “Many thanks go to Mencap and the excellent hospitality of the Oaktree – this was an excellent Christmas treat.”
