Highbridge’s Christmas lights were formally switched on by the town’s Mayor on Friday evening (December 7th).
A group of residents and town councillors gathered outside the Community Centre in Market Street to watch the ceremony, led by Mayor Ken Smout, as pictured.
Highbridge Chamber of Trade Chairman Mike Murphy, who organises the lights each year, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There are 66 lights and Christmas trees in place across the town centre – it’s a good display again this year and we have had great support from Highbridge’s businesses.”
He added that lights have also been installed next to the new town clock in Jubilee Gardens and along Church Street.
The town’s Christmas tree, located besides the Frank Foley statue, has been supplied by the Town Council and was also formally lit up on Friday night.
A grant was recently awarded to Highbridge Chamber of Trade by the council towards the replacement of its Christmas lights and new ones are due to be unveiled in 2013.
