Film screening boosts Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas lights display

-

Hundreds of pounds was raised for Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas lights display last night (Monday) when a special screening of a hit movie was held in the town.

Dozens of people attended the fundraising screening of the comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel at The Ritz Cinema to raise funds for the annual display.

Burnham Chamber of Trade, which oversees the annual display across the town centre, had warned earlier this month that it had a funding shortfall which may have led to this year’s display being scaled back. But the team said last night that would now not be case after a total of £516 was raised.

“The Chamber is grateful to all those who came along to the screening and to the businesses who gave raffle prizes for their support. Special thanks also go to Pat and Beryl Scott for holding the event at the cinema and to the Ritz Social Club for their support,” said the Chamber’s Chairman Mark Newman.

Businesses supporting the evening with raffle prizes included Bos Interiors, Crafty Tea Cup, Magpie Gifts, Material Needs, Burnham Angling, IM Tools, Home Hardware, Thomas, Sea Breeze, Heapes Gifts, Positive Wealth Creation, The Princess, D Bull Opticians, MI Games, Bessies Sweete Shop, Scotts Furnishings, Flowers and Things, Burnham Stationers, Ritz Cinema and KDS.
