Writing workshop was final grant-funded event at Apex Park

-

The final free event to be held at Apex Park funded by Somerset Community Foundation’s Grassroots scheme was held at the weekend.

Creative writing teacher Debby Grice held an all-day adults creative writing workshop at the park’s information point on Saturday (16th October).

After imaginative warm-ups, the group learnt how to create convincing characters, where to get ideas from, how to open a story, different approaches to plotting and how to improve their writing.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Parks and Open Spaces Project Officer, Marina Turner, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was with thanks to the Somerset Community Foundation’s Grassroots scheme that £2,615 was awarded to the Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group.”

“£1,000 was awarded for National Play Day 2009 and £1,615 was for events such as this one which have been taking place on occasional basis at Apex Park since January 2009.”

“This free workshop was the last event to be funded by the scheme. It’s my understanding that, sadly, the Grassroots grant programme is coming to a close in March 2011.”

“I hope everyone who has attended an event or workshop at Apex Park has enjoyed themselves and appreciated the free time that a lot of our volunteers have put in to running the free workshops.”
