Hair-raising experience for fund-raising Burnham hovercraft chairman!
Burnham-On-Sea hovercraft chairman Alan Miller has shown his support for the Western Daily Press’ Lelaina Rescue Appeal by having his hair dyed orange!
The colourful character visited Victoria Hair & Spa, Bridgwater on Friday April 29 to have the temporary makeover, which matches the colour of the wristbands being sold to raise money for the Burnham hovercraft and RNLI.
Pictured with Alan are Victoria Snook, owner of the hair salon, and her 6-week-old daughter, Violet. All three are sporting the orange wristbands.
Victoria said: “This is a very worthwhile appeal and we’re delighted to help all we can, even if it means changing someone’s appearance!”
Buy an orange wristband and help the Lelaina Rescue Appeal
Wristbands are the latest ‘must have’ fashion accessory and now the Western Daily Press has had orange ones exclusively made to support the Lelaina Rescue Appeal.
It’s nearly three years since little Lelaina Hall died after becoming trapped in mudflats at Berrow.
As the sea swirled around her, no-one could reach her – alone, cold and frightened her death was a tragedy which could have been prevented. She could have been your daughter, grand-daughter, niece or cousin.
Daily Press readers were determined her death would not be in vain and within weeks £115,000 was raised to pay for a hovercraft, which could get across the mud, its boathouse and vital equipment for its crew in Burnham-On-Sea.
The newspaper wants to try and ensure Lelaina’s spirit never dies and continue to back the selfless crews of the hovercraft and RNLI by raising money for both charities.
Each wristband costs just £1 and 51p from each one sold will be given to the Lelaina Rescue Appeal, 34p pays for the cost of the band and 15p pays VAT.
The bands are inscribed with the words “Western Daily Press Lelaina Rescue Appeal”.
Alan Miller, chairman of the Burnham hovercraft, said: “Let’s all band together and make this a huge success. I’d like to see every person in Burnham wearing one of these bands.”
Show your support by buying your wristband at either the Burnham hovercraft station or RNLI station during the May Day Holiday weekend.
HOW TO BUY YOUR WRISTBAND:
Get yours from Burnham’s hovercraft station, located on the seafront next to the Tourist Information Centre, which will be open to the public throughout the Bank Holiday Weekend – and on Monday May 2nd between 10am and 2pm. The hovercraft will also be driven through the town at mid-day on Monday when crew members will be selling the wrist bands.
