Highbridge residents welcome "long overdue" traffic calming scheme

-

Delighted residents in Highbridge have this week welcomed the news that a much-needed traffic calming scheme looks set to go ahead later this year.

The County Council’s highways department said this week it plans to install road humps at two locations in Worston Road.

Ward councillor Chris Williams, who has been calling for improved safety along the road for several years, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week he welcomes the news.

Pictured here pointing at where one of the sets of road humps will be installed, he told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A traffic calming scheme has been needed here for some time and is long overdue.”

Map of Worston Road“This is a dangerous stretch of road that is very narrow in parts where there have been at least three accidents in the last couple of years.”

“Motorists often hurtle along the road towards Poples Bow at speeds of 50-60mph, so I’m pleased the County Council has proposed a traffic calming scheme here.”

“I just hope that it improves safety for motorists and pedestrians.”

A County Council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that two sets of flat top road humps, similar to those in use along Burnham High Street, are being planned.

They are to be located in separate locations near no 21 Worston Road and another near 73 Worston Road.
