Motorist air-lifted to hospital after car crash in Burnham-On-Sea

-

A motorist had to be cut free from a car in Burnham-On-Sea on Friday (September 9th) and air-lifted to hospital following a crash.

Emergency services were called to Worston Lane at 9.20am after a car hit a tree, trapping the young male driver inside.

Fire crews from Burnham and Weston removed the roof of the vehicle to free the motorist, who had suffered possible spinal injuries.

Fire spokeswoman Suzie Izzard told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Crews set to work stabilising the vehicle before extricating the casualty onto a spinal board by removing the roof with hydraulic cutting equipment.”

An air ambulance landed on the nearby sports field next to Burnham’s BAY Centre and took off a few minutes later with the casualty.

Ambulance spokesman Dave Rogers told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The man in his late teens was air-lifted to Musgrove Park A&E.”

Police spokesman Martin Dunscombe added: “Our investigation into the incident is ongoing. The man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.”
