A short service took place next to Highbridge’s Frank Foley Statue in Market Street on Wednesday (January 27th) to commemorate World Holocaust Day.

The service was conducted by the Hope Baptist Church Minister Reverend Andrew Jackson, assisted by Reverend Christine Judson of St John’s Church Highbridge.

A wreath was laid at the statue by Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Cllr Derick Cooper and Mayoress Christine Cooper, as pictured, on behalf of the town towns. Sedgemoor District Council Chairman, Cllr Mrs Jane Moreton, was also among the congregation.

The statue at the centre of Wednesday’s ceremony is named after Highbridge-born Frank Foley, who was employed as a Passport Control Officer in Berlin from 1920 until 1939. In his role, he was able to help hundreds of Jews escape from Nazi Germany before the outbreak of World War Two.
