Burnham-On-Sea football fans crowded into town centre pubs and clubs to watch England lose against Croatia in the semi-final of the World Cup.
Some fans watching were in tears at the final whistle as the result sank in following England crashing out of the World Cup 2-1 to Croatia in extra time in Moscow.
Burnham’s M5 motorway junction was almost deserted during the big game, as pictured below, as motorists avoided travel and watched the match on TV.
The Three Lions took an early lead through Kieran Trippier’s free kick and had chances to double their advantage throughout the first half.
But they were pegged back midway through the second half when Ivan Perisic flicked home a cross to make it 1-1. Croatia had the better of the latter stages and scored again in extra time.
England’s World Cup run has given Burnham’s pubs and clubs a boost with crowds of extra customers over the last few weeks to watch the games.
