Highbridge school raises funds for charity on World Book Day

-

Staff and students at Highbridge’s King Alfred School celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as characters from their favourite books.

The event attracted participants from various different year groups and helped celebrate authors, illustrators, books and reading.

The school also hosted a World Book Day school fair in the hall at lunchtime, which was organised and run by members of The King Alfred School Book Club, with the help of the school’s librarian and the school’s literacy co-ordinator.

The fair raised £89 for Book Aid International, a charity which helps build and resource libraries in sub-Saharan Africa.

A spokesperson said: “The fair was a huge success, many students, as well as members of staff, visited the fair and its stalls.”

“Stalls included soak the teacher, a cake sale, a second hand book sale, guess the book in the jar, a raffle, and more.
