Burnham rescue teams called to help windsurfers in difficulty

-

Coastguards and hovercrafts from Burnham-On-Sea were called to Weston beach on Tuesday evening (May 12th) after two windsurfers got into difficulty in thick mud.

The alarm was raised by a beach walker at 8pm when the pair were seen struggling in deep mud.

Burnham Coastguards sent a Mud Rescue Team to the scene, joining Weston Coastguards, two BARB Search & Rescue hovercrafts, and a team from Avon Fire & Rescue.

Burnham Coastguard Officer Dave Welland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The two windsurfers had got into difficulty with the falling tide.”

“A walker spotted them struggling and several rescue teams were sent to help them.”

“The two were helped back to the shore safely and neither was hurt.”

“It serves as a fresh reminder about checking tide times if you’re using the beach and also avoiding the muddy areas where you can quickly get into difficulty.”
