Protest held outside EDF wind farm exhibition in Burnham

-

Banner-wielding residents who are opposed to controversial plans for a new wind farm held a protest outside a power company’s exhibition in Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday (August 12th).

Supporters of the ‘No Huntspill Wind Farms’ group gathered outside Burnham’s Princess Theatre, as pictured, to hand out leaflets and explain their stance to people visiting the exhibition.

EDF Energy Renewables held the public exhibition to provide more information about the project to build nine wind turbines on land next to Withy Farm, near East Huntspill.

The company hopes the proposed wind farm will generate enough power for 10,000 homes a year, but protesters say they will be noisy, spoil the countryside and hurt the wildlife.

Protester Stan Howlett told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “People visiting today’s exhibition have been very sympathetic to our viewpoints – only two people during the whole day say they are in favour of the proposed wind farm.”

He said further protests will be held over coming weeks in an effort to raise public awareness about the scheme.
