Protest held outside EDF’s first wind farm exhibition

-

Plans for a new wind farm on a site near Burnham-On-Sea went on official display on Monday (August 2nd) and worried residents flocked to the event to air their concerns.

Members of the ‘No Huntspill Wind Farms’ group held a protest outside, as EDF Energy Renewables held the first of a series of public exhibitions to provide more information about the project to build nine wind turbines at Withy Farm near East Huntspill.

The company hopes the proposed wind farm will generate enough power for 10,000 homes a year.

Further EDF exhibitions will be held at East Huntspill’s New Village Hall from 10am-8pm on Tuesday (August 3rd) and then at Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre from 2-8pm next Thursday (August 12th).

Protester Ken Harrison told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve had lots of interest in our protest and over 120 people have given us their contact details today to register their interest.”

Dennis Garry, EDF Energy Renewables’ Development Manager for the project, said: “Local opinion is very important to us and we would encourage anyone who has a question or is interested in the project to come along to discuss the plans with us.”
