A huge fundraising campaign has this week been launched by campaigners fighting to stop a wind farm being built on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea.
Over 70 supporters of the Knoll To Wind Farm group filled Brent Knoll’s parish hall to hear about the plans for a £30,000 campaign.
Group spokesman Andy Manning told Burnham-On-Sea.com that a huge amount of money needs to be raised in order to fight Ecotricity’s appeal against last summer’s decision by planners to turn down the bid to construct five wind turbines on fields next to Brent Knoll – as pictured in this photomontage.
“We need to raise a great deal of money to appoint a barrister to fight the appeal on our behalf,” he explained. “We’ll need a minimum of £30,000, although several of those at the meeting said we really should be aiming for £50,000.”
“We have £8,000 in the bank already so need to raise over £20,000 during the next six or so months before the appeal is heard. We’re considering inviting people in the area to donate their council tax for a month to help us reach the target.”
“A couple of substantial cheques were handed over at the meeting and we had supporters from across the area in attendance.”
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this month how Burnham-On-Sea Town Council and Brent Knoll Parish Council are investigating whether to pool their resources together in order to jointly oppose the controversial planning application for a wind farm on the outskirts of the town. They are investigating whether there is scope to appoint a single planning consultant and legal representative.
And we were first to reveal in December that Ecotricity, the developer behind the scheme to build five wind turbines, had submitted its appeal after its application was turned down last summer.
