Ecotricity – the controversial company behind the failed bid to develop a wind farm on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea – has this week submitted its appeal against the decision.
A Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday that the appeal documents had arrived and would be reviewed in the coming weeks ahead of a final decision during 2007.
The news is certain to stoke up renewed debate about whether Ecotricity’s bid to build five huge wind turbines on fields next to Brent Knoll – as pictured in the photomontage above – should get the go-ahead despite being turned down in August.
Campaign groups are already rallying their members with the news that the appeal is getting underway.
FORCE (Families for Clean Energy) will continue to campaign in favour of the scheme, while KNOll to Wind Farm will argue why it believes this is the wrong location for the scheme.
Ecotricity boss Dale Vince told Burnham-On-Sea.com he is confident that the wind farm will one day be built at the Brent Knoll site.
“Sedgemoor District Council got it all wrong – they failed to properly balance rationale and local prejudice. I believe many of the councillors who voted against the scheme hadn’t even read the application or fully understood the issues. There was a lot of nonsense discussed and the council were not able to make a reasoned decision.”
“I am very confident that we will get the go-ahead here. We have an awful lot of support locally and the area is ideal for a wind farm.”
