Visitors to Brent Knoll will this weekend be able to experience the Wild West at a garden centre while helping raise funds for Help for Heroes.

Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll near Burnham-On-Sea is hosting a Wild West Re-enactment Weekend on Sunday August 26th and Bank Holiday Monday August 27th during normal garden centre opening hours.

Phil Tyzack, Manager of Sanders Garden World, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Wild West Re-enactment Weekend. It is the seventh time we have held the event and it has proved extremely popular with visitors in the past.”

“It is a great day out for the whole family and everyone can get involved and experience a little of what life was like in Western America during the 19th century.”

The Boots and Saddles Western Re-enactment & Living History Club, which will be doing the re-enactment at the garden centre, aims to raise money for charity while providing people with a glimpse of the Wild West.

Phil added: “There will be a dress parade showing how civil war military, Native Americans, townsfolk and pioneers dressed during the era.”

There will also be a variety of Wild West scenes, including an American Civil War battle, Native American Indian dancing and shoot-outs.

Everyone involved in the re-enactment will be dressed in the style of the era and there will be mock examples of gun fights, which were typical in the Wild West during the 1800s.

Dave Rouse, Trail Boss of The Boots & Saddles Western Re-enactment & Living History Club, explained: “We will be setting up a western frontier town and living history camp with authentic tents of the 1800s. Visitors will be able to look around the tents and get a feel for what life was like during the era.”

“There will also be various Western-themed side shows and games for both children and adults to take part in during the event, including a cactus hoopla, horse shoe throwing and a wheel of fortune. On Sunday, we will be holding a fancy dress competition for children from 2pm.”

Entrance to the re-enactment will cost £1 for adults and 50p for children under 16. All proceeds will be donated to the charity Help for Heroes.
