A location in Highbridge has this week been named as being crucial to US security in the latest batch of documents to be published by whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks.
The transatlantic undersea cable station in Highbridge, which relays information between the UK and the US, has been named in documents leaked on the website.
It is among 300 places outside America whose loss could “critically impact the public health, economic security, and/or national and homeland security of the United States”.
The publication of the information has been condemned by the Government, with a Downing Street spokesman saying: “We unequivocally condemn the unauthorised release of classified information. The leaks and their publication are damaging to national security in the United States, Britain and elsewhere.”
