Dog owners gather on Brean beach for celebration and record bid

-

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, and their owners, headed to Brean beach on Sunday (March 15th) as part of a worldwide ‘walk our Wheatens day’ to celebrate the breed society’s 60th anniversary and attempt a world record.

Owners from the Burnham-On-Sea area were joined by others from as far afield as the south coast and the Midlands for the special event.

Wheaten owners from around the globe walked their dogs on the same day and the same local hour in an attempt to set a record for the biggest ever such event.

Among the Burnham owners were Sue and Fred A’Court and their dog Monty who joined owners and their pets from as far as Oxford and Southampton.

Sue told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Wheaten terriers are believed to be the oldest breed of Irish terrier so it was was great to see so many on the beach at Brean.”

The walk was organised by Somerset wheaten breeder Brenda Grant. It comes after the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of Great Britain encouraged owners from all over the country to set up walks to celebrate the club’s diamond anniversary.
