The body of this huge 30ft whale which was spotted floating in a river estuary near Burnham-On-Sea was washed up on the South Wales coast on Tuesday (September 1st).
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report on Sunday how the huge mammal, pictured here, had been spotted by two jet skiers in the River Parrett in between Combwich and Burnham.
The 10 metre long minke whale has ended up at the Knap in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.
Dave Wall, chief officer with Swansea Coastguard, said: “It has clearly been dead for some days at least. This sort of thing does happen from time to time.”
Jet skiers Derek Jones and his 12-year-old son Sean, from Bristol, said they had spotted the mammal still alive in the estuary at about 5pm on Sunday. However, a Burnham lifeboat crew went out to check on it, and said it was showing no signs of life.
Local beach wardens have been scouring local beaches since the weekend in case the mammal was washed up in the Burnham area.
6pm update: The whale has now drifted back out into the Bristol Channel
