Western-style wedding blessing pushes back the clock 140 years!
West Huntspill Church, near Burnham-On-Sea, was the setting for one of the area’s most unusual wedding anniversary celebrations this week.
The Parish Church of St Peter and All Hallows stepped back in time 140 years on Saturday when a group of historical reinactors gathered to celebrate a 30th wedding anniversary of a well-known local couple.
Peter and Susan Vanstone were for many years in a popular reinactment group with Chris and Sue Jefferies of Burnham-On-Sea.
And so was to be partly expected that their wedding anniversary would take on a Western-style!
The couple entered the church to a piece of music called ‘The Ride To Fort Hayes’ from the film ‘Dances With Wolves’ by John Barry.
And mid-way through the ceremony, after the blessing, ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Dolly Partin was played, followed by ‘Talking Leaves’ by Johnny Cash from his Bitter Tears album.
The ceremony was held in front of some 30 friends and family at the church, with the blessing being overseen by Rev Geoffrey Walsh. A reception followed at the Crossways.
