West Huntspill Model Engineering Society has officially unveiled its new passenger carriages this week at the village’s miniature railway station.
Called Betty, Molly, Peggy and Joyce, the carriages are named after the wives of former members.
Peggy Napper, 92, is pictured unveiling a carriage named after herself, watched by society members Oliver Edwards, Colin Clarke, Mike Heron, Mike Bishop, Mike Pearson, Graham Jones and Robert Davis.
Peggy said she was “delighted” to unveil the latest passenger carriage.
Due to a happy coincidence the letter requesting her attendance arrived on her deceased husband’s birthday.
He passed away 12 years ago. She added that she is so pleased that the club continues to thrive and do well.
The model railway is a firm favourite with local families and runs every Sunday from Easter until the end of October at the Memorial Playing Fields in New Road, West Huntspill.
The service is run by a team of dedicated volunteers who put in many hundreds of hours of their time each year to keep it running.
The model railway opened in 1967 and has gradually grown in size to include a full circular track around the site, next to the playing fields, which offers rides every weekend to visitors.
