A fundraising appeal has raised almost £1,000 for a couple who had their wedding fund of more than £3,000 stolen by burglars.
Mel Dawes and Luke Jones returned to their home aftre a shopping trip to find Mel’s car missing from the drive and money, jewellery and other valuables stolen.
The couple have friends in the Burnham-On-Sea area and are members of Burnham’s Coastal Archers group.
Mel, 22, says the expereince has been “devastating” as they have lost over £5,000 in total.
Mel found the upstairs of their home completely ransacked. The thieves stole necklaces, bracelets and bangles, as well as a Play Station and games belonging to Luke.
Mel’s Vauxhall Corsa, which was uninsured and kept off road, was later discovered embedded in the wall of a garage in Weston-super-Mare. They had to pay a £75 release fee and £150 for a vehicle carrier to deliver the vehicle to their home as it couldn’t be driven because it has no insurance.
Mel, 22, a hospital care assistant, is set to marry Luke, 28, on April 9th 2020.
When the couple’s archery friend, Amanda George, heard of the burglary, she created a GoFundMe fundraising appeal and many poeople have donated to the couple, by clicking here.
