The sighting of a flock of seldom-seen birds has caused a flap among twitchers in Berrow this week.
A dozen Waxwing were spotted on the outkirts of the village on Monday (January 3rd).
The plump bird, which is slightly smaller than a starling, has a prominent reddish-brown crest and yellow and white colouring in its wings and a yellow-tipped tail.
James Packer, who took this photo in Berrow on Monday, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There’s been a big influx of the birds into the country recently, but these are the first that have been seen in Burnham or Berrow this winter.”
The RSPB notes on its website that the birds are normally seen along the east coast, from Scotland to East Anglia, although they do sometimes move inland in search of food during harsh winters.
