Burnham-On-Sea to host its first international water skiing event

-

Many of Europe’s leading water skiers will be in action in Burnham-On-Sea later this month when the town hosts its first international water skiing competition.

Dozens of skiers will be competing during three hours of racing on Sunday April 15th that, if successful, could lead to a round of the European Water Skiing Cup being held in Burnham in the future.

“Water skiers from as far afield as Belgium and Austria will be travelling to Burnham to take part in the town’s first open international water skiing event so it will be a great spectacle,” co-organiser Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We are hopeing there will be big crowds along the seafront watching the three races, which will include two junior and veterans races from 12.30pm and the main race at around 2pm.”

“There has been lots of interest from entrants and we already have over 30 power boats booked in.”

He added: “We have our fingers crossed for good weather and calm sea conditions. If this year’s event is successful it could well lead to a round of the European Cup being held in Burnham in the future, which would be phenomenal for the town.”

There will be no charge for spectators to watch the action and a full speaker system will be set up along the seafront so that those watching will be able to hear a live commentary.

Previously, two rounds of the UK’s national water skiing championships have been held in Burnham in 2007 and 2011.
