A World War II comedy drama about a family’s life in Bethnal Green will be coming to Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre in April – and residents are being invited to get involved.
The one-woman performance, called Lie Back and Think Of America, at the Princess Theatre on 19th April by London-based Front Room Theatre will focus on the transforming effect of love against all odds and includes the scenes about evacuation.
The group’s Natalie Penn told Burnham-On-Sea.com she is keen for people in Burnham to be a part of the production. “We would like to invite local residents to send in real and imagined letters from the point of view of an evacuee, either called Lucy or Michael. The winner’s letter will be read out in an additional scene of the play and incorporated into the production,” she explained.
“We will endeavour to display the all letters sent to us that are not used in the play. We would also appreciate copies – no originals please! – of any photos you may have of the late 1930s up to 1945, which we would also like to incorporate in the production.”
To enter, send an email with the subject line ‘evacuee letters’ to LieBackAmerica@gmail.com before 2nd April or, alternatively, letters can be sent to Natalie Penn c/o Shrewsbury House Community Centre, Bushmoor Crescent, Shooters Hill, London SE18 3EG.
Tickets for the production are on sale from the Princess Box Office (standard tickets £10, concessions £6) by calling 01278 784464.
