A funeral cortege was held through Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (March 29th) to mark the sad passing of well-known Highbridge resident Terry Rickard who died last month.
Hundreds of people paid their last respects to the community-spirited owner of Burnham Waste, whose coffin was carried on a skip lorry through Burnham and Highbridge in a cortège of lorries and motorbikes.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here that tributes have been paid to Terry, 77, who was well known across Burnham and Highbridge for helping many community groups over several decades.
The cortege paused at Burnham Fire Station, where Terry had served as a fire officer for many years, and was formally met by past and serving firefighters as a tribute.
Members of Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club gathered along the route to applaud as the coffin passed, holding a banner that said simply ‘Thank you Terry’ in recognition of his substantial support to the club.
The cortège then headed through the town to Sedgemoor Crematorium, where the funeral was attended by hundreds of people, with many listening outside.
The service included many anecdotes recalling his life and great service to the local community. Tributes were read by Donna Pettitt, Paul Holder, Mike Long and Phil Martin. The service was led by Beverley Symonds.
Terry’s family thanked everyone for their support on an emotional day.
