Sandcastle building challenge beaten by the weather
A group of Venture Scouts who set out to build one of Burnham beach’s biggest sandcastles this week was beaten by the weather.
On what should have been a fine summer’s evening, the group of 20 teenagers from Mid-Sedgemoor Explorer Scouts gathered near the jetty with garden spades and shovels for the monumental task ahead.
But within minutes of starting the skies had darkened and they were given a soaking as heavy rain and thunder swept in.
Explorer Leader Mick White told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’d planned the evening several weeks ago and hadn’t counted on getting rain, thunder and lightning on a summer’s evening!”
He joked: “If the weather’s this good in the summer, our visit to the beach will have to become a bi-annual event!”
The Explorer Scouts meet every Tuesday evening at Burnham-On-Sea Scout HQ to take part in a range of activities including sailing, canoeing and abseiling.
