70th anniversary of VE Day to be marked in Burnham-On-Sea today

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Royal British Legion will be marking the 70th anniversary of VE Day on Friday (May 8th).

The Burnham branch of the Legion, based in Victoria Street, is holding a traditional lunch at 12pm for 12.30pm.

This will be followed at around 2.45pm by a ceremony outside Burnham’s War Memorial Hospital.

There will be a two-minute silence to remember those who died in the war, followed by a short service.

Friday’s anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) marks 70 years since the end of the second world war in Europe.

The Royal British Legion, as the national custodian of Remembrance, will lead the nation in marking the commemoration, including hosting a major reception for 2,000 veterans in London.
