Police have appealed for witnesses after ‘senseless’ vandals left a trail of damage at a school near Burnham-On-Sea during a break-in on New Year’s Eve.
East Huntspill Primary School’s grounds were attacked when vandals broke play equipment and smashed down doors to inflict widespread damage.
Amy Griffin, from the school’s PTA group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re all absolutely shocked and very, very upset that someone would do this.”
“There has been a lot of damage to the outdoor play areas. Many pre-school outdoor toys have been broken and there has been damage to our memorial garden wildlife pond.”
“It’s awful for the school’s children that the equipment has been damaged in this way – it’s senseless.”
“Play equipment was also spread across the playing field at the side of the school. Members of the PTA and caretaker have been down to assess the damage this morning. We will now have to raise funds to replace the equipment.”
Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
